Spring 2010 Babe Ruth Registration

To all Baseball Players ages 13-15,

Spring Babe Ruth is currently open for registration at (www.nfcbaberuth.com )
.  We particularly wish to extend a welcome to those players graduating from little league.  We offer "Babe Ruth Prep" in the Spring for "league age" 13 year olds, and this is a great time to learn the game on the "big field".  We welcome players with any level of experience, from those just starting the game to highly experienced players.  We maximize playing time for all our players and work to provide an enjoyable and competitive experience for everyone.

In addition to Babe Ruth Prep for 13 year olds, we will have teams at the 14-15 year old level, and Babe Ruth Seniors at the 16-18 year old level
.

For the past several years, the CYA Babe Ruth Program has been affiliated and chartered, along with teams from Herndon/Reston, under Northern Fairfax County Babe Ruth (NRCBR) but have maintained a separate CYA Babe Ruth organization to administer those players within CYA boundaries.  To be more efficient and effective with our resources the CYA Babe Ruth Program has joined forces with the teams from Herndon/Reston to administer the program as the combined NFCBR.

One of the most important changes is that we are merging our registration systems and will offer online registration at the new NFCBR site (www.nfcbaberuth.com) rather than at CYA’s web site for players age 13-15.  We will still form teams around traditional boundaries (i.e., the Reds and Braves systems will continue to draw from CYA boundaries and continue to practice and play home games at Greenbriar and Poplar Tree fields).  New players close to the Herndon/Reston/Chantilly boundaries (e.g., those attending Rachel Carson Middle School) could potentially cross boundaries if necessary to balance the numbers of players on teams.  This should be a seamless transition for the players and coaches becasue this essentially reflects how we have been conducting league operations over the past two years.  All players currently in the Reds and Braves systems from the Spring 2009 season will remain with those teams for the Spring 2010, as in the past for the Spring season.

The registration web page for age 13-15 year old players is:  www.nfcbaberuth.com  and it is open now for registration.  When you register there will be a place to indicate which system/team you are currently assigned.  Please register now!  Coaches need to also register as a volunteer.  Early registration is $160.  Late fee of $25 will be assessed on March 8.

We hope to start practices in March and season will probably start the week of April 5 (after Spring Break).

For players new to Babe Ruth, we are planning to have skills assessments at Stratton Woods on March 13-14 with a rain/backup date of  March 20-21.  If you played for the Braves this past fall but were not on the team (Prep and 14/15) last spring then you will have to attend skills assessment.

We are looking forward to another great baseball season!!!

Please contact Jim Keating, CYA’s Babe Ruth Baseball Coordinator, at baberuth@chantillyyouth.org or evenings at 703-478-3450 with any questions.

Please note that Senior Babe Ruth will still be administered through CYA, as it has been (Babe Ruth Seniors should register at www.chantillyyouth.org).

NFC Babe Ruth Baseball
Ages 13-15

CYA and Herndon Reston Babe Ruth is now Northern Fairfax County Babe Ruth (NFCBR).  Same great sponsors - CYA, Herndon Optimist, Reston Youth Baseball with one website to register, check schedules, find fields, and more of the info you want about Babe Ruth.  The new website can be found at NFCbaberuth.com .  Take a look and if you have suggestions or questions, contact us.  Your comments are welcome.

NFCBR is comprised of teams from Chantilly, Herndon, and Reston. Within NFCBR, we use the System Concept to promote player development. The System Concept is designed so that a player can stay with the same system in which they are initially drafted throughout their BR career during the Spring seasons.  Chantilly-based players currently play in two Systems: Braves and Reds.  Each system is run by a System Manager, and fields teams in three divisions:

  • Prep - 13 year olds

  • Alliance - 14 & 15 year olds
  • Babe Ruth - more competitive 14 & 15 year olds

For more information on divisions, click on the link at the left-hand side of this page called Division Information. Players are assigned to play in the division which is appropriate for their age and skill level in accordance with Babe Ruth rules. Players sometimes play across divisions to satisfy the needs of the System, and to promote their own development.

We understand many of our 15 year-old players will be participating in a spring sport at their high schools, however please realize that does not preclude playing BR baseball.  Our season continues after the completion of the spring high school seasons. For example, the high school JV baseball season ends the first week of May. The more competitive "Babe Ruth" division does not start until the following week.  All high school players are invited to play in the competitive "Babe Ruth" division after the completion of their high school season.

We look forward to seeing everyone back out again this spring. If you have any questions or concerns about the coming season, please feel free to contact the CYA Babe Ruth Baseball Coordinator at baberuth@chantillyyouth.org .
