Run and Jump Clinic - True Performance
Girls Travel Program 2009-10
Program Summary
UPDATE: The Travel tryouts for the all Girls teams aged 10 through 14 have now been completed. All participants should have been contacted; if you have not been contacted, contact Kate Sciorra at katewing33@gmail.com.

In our Winter program, CYA offers those players with a higher skill level an opportunity to participate in the county-wide Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (commonly known as Travel or Select). Travel coaches are re-selected each summer through an interview procress. During tryouts held in early October, the coaches select 10-11 players per team from among all those who participate in at least 2 tryouts. The number of teams per age group is determined by the talent available at tryouts (with a maximum of 3 teams per age group). Practice begins as soon as the teams are selected. This program requires a greater time commitment from participants for practice (2-3 hours per week) and games (1-2 per week); most games are played at gyms across Fairfax County (often outside the Chantilly area) and in Falls Church, Arlington, or Alexandria.

Girls programs are offered at the ages of 10 and under, 11 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under (note that the Girls 14 and under league is predominantly 8th graders). The placement of players is generally determined by their age as of 1 October, with two grade exceptions allowed per team. In addition, all CYA players must reside in Fairfax County and, by FCYBL rules, are limited to our allocated zip codes (22033, 20151, 20171, 22124, and 20120), with 2 zip code exceptions allowed per team.

Age is determined by the player’s age as of October 1st 2009. For example, a player who is 11 as of 11:59 PM on September 30th would normally try out for the 11 and under team. However, each team is allowed a maximum of 2 age exceptions for those players who are older than others in their grade (for example, a player who is 12 as of 11:59 PM on Sept. 30th but in 6th grade could try out for the 11 and under team).

Note that FCYBL also strictly limits the number of players aged 9 years and below who can be selected to the 10 and under teams. For that reason, a separate tryout will be held for 4th graders prior to the Girls 10 and under tryouts; at this 4th grade tryout, a limited number of players will then be invited to participate in the 10 and under tryouts.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Online registration will begin on September 15, 2009 (accessed through the link in the top left corner of the main CYA web page, www.chantillyyouth.org). In addition, there will be at least one walk-in registration at Chantilly HS (cafeteria) in September on a date to be announced. The registration deadline for Travel basketball is October 1st in order for CYA to conduct tryouts and select the teams the first two weeks of October. After October 1st, individuals can still try out for Travel teams by attending at least 2 of the tryouts but they will have to register for House. All those trying out for Travel must be registered for either House or Travel by the second night of tryouts for their age-level. If a player does not make a Travel team, they will automatically be moved to the House program.

The basic registration fee is $135.50. In addition, Travel players pay a $50.00 supplemental fee after they are selected to a team--this covers the extra gym space in the Fall and Winter. Anyone in grades 8 and below who registers after October 18th will pay a $25.00 late fee.
