CYA Softball "House" Program

CYA PHILOSOPHY

The primary objective of our sports programs is to promote and teach good sportsmanship, respect for authority, and loyalty to a team, and a heightened sense of self-worth. While teaching the proper fundamentals of each sport is very important, we recognize that for most of our children, playing sports is a recreational pursuit. We strive to accommodate all children, not just children who have attained or seek to attain the highest level of skill in a sport.

VOLUNTEERS
As is true in any non-profit sports program, the league needs volunteers.  Without parent involvement the league would not exist.  We need help!!!!  Coaches, assistant coaches, coordinators for each league, fund raising, field maintenance, equipment management, board administration, the list goes on and on.

CYA SOFTBALL HOUSE PROGRAM
CYA House Softball Leagues operate in the Spring (April – June) and Fall (September – November).  The teams compete internally against one another and against other leagues within the area.  The goal of the CYA House program is to offer the opportunity for all girls to compete on a team sport.  As noted above, good sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork are emphasized.  In house league play, all girls participate during the game, no matter what their skill level.

House programs:

Girls T-Ball - ages 5 and 6.  We will use a 9" ball that will facilitate throwing mechanics and be somewhat softer for those still learning to catch.

8U (ages 7 and 8) - we use an 10" ball and pitching machines where available.  Girls will get approximately 5 pitches, then hit off the tee if needed.

10U (ages 9 and 10) – almost full scale softball – kids pitch, steal one base per pitch and can even steal home!  Batters strike out but can’t walk – coach pitches after 4 balls are earned by the batter and batters either hit, strike out, or are put out by the defense.  We want them to hit!

12U (ages 11 and 12)

14U (ages 13 and 14) we need help recruiting players from Middle School.  Please ask your daughter to bring a friend this year to boost the number of teams.  More teams = more fun!

18U (ages 13 to 18) if we don’t have enough young ladies to field 14U or 18 teams, we will move the 14U players up to 18U.  Parents will have the option of a full refund if they don’t want their 13/14 year olds playing up.

For all programs, eligibility is based on the player’s age on January 1st of the current year.
